Cherry Almond Dessert 1-2-3

It is Improv Day, yes, we are all sharing our recipes using cherry and almonds, a combination that almost always works.  Thanks to Kristen for running the Improv Challenge and coming up with such good ideas for the ingredients. This month's is particularly a favorite since I have used these ingredients, time and again, in cakes, coffee cakes, pie, desserts and cookies.

I wanted to make a simple dessert and I did just that. Perhaps, I should have gone for something more complicated for such an event but there is much to be said about creating something delicious with little effort.

I made what I am calling, Cherry Almond Dessert 1-2-3.

Ingredients:

3 cups plain yogurt or vanilla yogurt
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 cup almond slivers or chopped almonds
1/2 cup cherries, fresh or canned

Method:

Mix the almond extract into the yogurt.
Add almonds and cherries and mix so you will have some in every spoonful.
Place into individual serving dishes. Depending on the size of dish, you should get from 3 to 5 servings. This disappears quickly. It is refreshing, makes an easy breakfast or a delicious dessert.

  1. Neat idea! I have granola mixed with yogurt and fruit for breakfast all of the time. This looks like a great way to change it up!

  2. Sometimes simple is the best. I'm thinking of layering my Amaretto Cherry sauce with some yogurt and topping it with granola a la Cookaholic Wife.
